Hemp Protein as a Meat Alternative?

Hemp Protein as a Meat Alternative?

Apr 17th 2024

The demand for plant-based alternatives to meat has increased exponentially in the past few years. This demand has led to the popularization of so many alternative protein sources, and now Hemp may be an up-coming option!

Studies have shown that Hemp, specifically Hemp Seeds, are an incredible source of protein, fiber, and essential fatty acids, as well as other necessary nutrients like vitamin C, iron, and zinc.

And it's more than just the seeds; while Hemp seeds are about 30% protein, the Hemp plants' biomass (leaves, stems, stalks, etc.) is about 20% protein!

According to recent studies, Hemp Seeds actually contain all of the amino acids that humans require - more so than some grain, nuts, and even meats!

When it comes to meat alternatives, Hemp is not only a great option based on it's health benefits, but because it can cater to those with dietary restrictions like allergies or intolerance to soy (which is used in a large amount of meat substitutes).

In addition to being a very common allergen, soy products are often expensive and contain high amounts of estrogen and sodium, which can be a deal-breaker to the health-conscious consumer.

So, keep an eye out - you may start seeing Hemp Burgers popping up in fast food restaurants before you know it!
