Cannabinoid Spotlight: CBG

Cannabinoid Spotlight: CBG

Apr 17th 2024

With the growing popularity of the Hemp and Cannabis industry, most people have become familiar with CBD, THC, and the benefits associated with each.

However, there are over 100+ other cannabinoids within the hemp plant that can have their own specific set of effects! Below, we will be discussing the effects of one compound in particular: CBG

CBG or Cannabigerol is a minor cannabinoid present in low levels in almost all hemp/cannabis strains - typically below 1%. One reason for this is that the precursor to CBG, CBGA, is also the precursor molecule for THCA, CBDA, and CBCA, which break down under light and heat to become THC, CBD, and CBC. Because of this, many have dubbed CBG the "Mother of All Cannabinoids."

Higher yields of CBG can be obtained through cross-breeding, genetic experimentation, and extraction of the compound from the plant.

Like CBD, CBG is non-psychoactive, meaning it will not cause a feeling of inebriation or a "high." In fact, like CBD, the introduction of CBG to the body can actually inhibit the receptor that THC binds to, reducing the psychotropic effects (the "high") of cannabis.

CBG has been known to help with issues such as pain, inflammation, and anxiety. There are also studies suggesting that CBG may have antibacterial and cancer-fighting properties, and may even act as a neuroprotectant!
