Ways to Cool Off this Summer

Posted by Lily on Aug 15th 2024

Summertime is full of fun, but it can also be unbearably hot! Heat stroke is no joke, especially for children and older folks. If you are looking for ways to beat the heat, here are some ideas that you can use to cool down even when air conditioning isn't an option!

1. Get your splash on: Water is a great tool for cooling down, and there are a variety of ways you can use water to stay cool. First, swimming in a pool, lake, ocean, or other body of water can help keep you cooler than the outside temperature. You can even fill a tub or basin with cold water and simply stick your feet in it to cool your entire body off. If you are on the go in the heat, you can wet a small towel, bandana, or other cloth and wear it around your neck. The water evaporating from the cloth will help cool you down quickly, just like your sweat does! Bonus cooling happens if you cool down your pulse points like your neck and wrists as the cooled blood will flow throughout your body.

2. Timing is key: It is best to avoid going outside for long periods of time during the hottest part of the day, from around 11 AM to 3 PM when the sun is directly overhead. If you do have to be outside, finding shade or staying low to the ground will help you stay a little cooler.

3. Stay loose and breezy: Wearing clothes made of light and natural fibers like cotton and linen will not trap heat like synthetic fibers will. Loose-fitting clothing that still provide coverage from the sun are the most ideal!

4. Fan-tasitic devices: Small handheld fans or hands-free fans that are worn around the neck can create a breeze that can help circulate the hot air. Pairing this method with a wet cloth will be super effective!

5. Tall drink of water: Stay hydrated by drinking lots of cool water and sports drinks. Limit your caffeine and alcohol intake, as these substances cause dehydration.

6. Cool cream: Use a cooling cream, like Colorado Cures CBD Cold Cream to get an immediate cooling effect and to soothe skin after sun exposure. Look here to see what topical options we have!
